GECO B9 – Anaerobic Digestion Plant

Project Description

Group has almost completed construction of the largest industrial/commercial anaerobic digestion plant in Ireland. Through the success of the Greenville AD plant, WIS have now founded a strong relationship with a globally recognised company employing c317 000 people and formed a JV (joint venture) to undertake this major job. This 3MW plant will process c60, 000 tonnes of commercial and industrial food waste per annum. WIS Group was appointed as constructors of the plant following competitive tender, on the basis of their value engineering and in-house process engineering expertise. The construction of this £15.8mn plant was completed within 15 months.

This 3MW plant is unique in the fact that it will run solely on food waste. This affirms the fact that WIS provides technology suited to individual project requirements as the process system for the 3MW plant varies greatly to the Greenville AD plant. In additional to the digester tanks and CHP units which feature in the Greenville AD plant, the 3MW plant includes a large scale waste reception plant with depackaging equipment and extensive odour control, a pasteurisation unit to fulfil the environmental requirements as laid out in the PAS110 specification and a hydrolysis tank prior to the digestion process to facilitate the production of biogas. The completion of this accomplished project will firmly secure WIS in the position of market leader with the knowledge and expertise to carry out AD projects of all scale.
